Noun Time #2 - Things I Find Funny Edition 3

Wednesday means funny on this here blog! And this week's thing I find funny would be recreation pictures. I think it's absolutely hilarious to recreate an old picture. And I think everyone should do this at some point in their life. I haven't done this yet myself, but am planning to. I just need to figure out which childhood picture I want to recreate. Below are some that I found particularly funny. These and more can be found here.

Noun Time #1 - Oh The Places I'll Go...Or Want To...Edition 3

It's Monday! And that means it's time for me to daydream about another place I'd like to go if I were rich and had all the time in the world.

Today I will take us to Egypt:

Now aside from all of the recent turmoil, this place has always been in my top five places I want to visit. I love Egyptian history. I want to visit all of the pyramids, learn to read the hieroglyphics (well pretend to learn) and ride a camel. How fun would that be? I would have to deal with my sand issue, because the whole country is sand, but I think it would be worth it just to say I've been there. I would have to pass up on the mummies though. I don't do well with corpses.

The heat could be an issue too, but I do love warm. So maybe their winter time? Do they have winter time? I just think everything there is so gorgeous and unique. The ancient royalty is so interesting to me, and they worshiped cats! Something I think is genius, as they already think they own you. I don't know about the curses though, one wrong move and you could end up with a hand growing out of your ear.

Noun Time #3 - Famous People That Shouldn't Be - Edition 1

There are quite a few people that are famous and in my opinion should not be. Each week I'll cover a new person that I think should disappear.

This week is Kim Kardashian:

Well let's be honest, her whole family should disappear. Why are these people famous? Why do we allow idiots like this entertain us? It's baffling. Yet we're all guilty of watching them, and if not them, someone like them. It's almost unavoidable when they are everywhere. I was watching Last Man Standing one night and lo and behold there was Kim guest starring. Why??? If we continue to give these people attention, they will continue to be in the media annoying us with their mindless babble. Not to mention showing off their whoring abilities, because that's what little girls need to be taught. Gah!

Then there's Kim's record marriage (and not her first mind you). This girl is only out for publicity, because she has no other talents. She's lucky she's remotely pretty because if she didn't have that going for her (of course after pounds of makeup are layered onto her face), I'm not sure she'd be as famous.

If I had magical powers, I would wave my wand and place her on a deserted island with no way of leaving. And we would call this island the Forgotten For Good Island. Stay tuned, more will join her.

This is how I imagine her to look after a day or two on
the island. Sexy right?

The Doctor's Supper

Now this is the kind of last supper I could get behind.

There are oh so many reasons why this picture is awesome. Too many to list, so just enjoy.

Genius Ideas

Do you ever have that moment when you see an item and it's complete genius, and then you kick yourself for not having thought of it first? Below are a few things I found that I started kicking myself over:

These and a few others that I wasn't as largely impressed with, but you might be, can be found at:

Noun Time #2 - Things I Find Funny Edition 2

It's Wednesday! And Noun Time! This week's thing is another video. And if you don't know get why this is silly, then you need to broaden your musical knowledge I fear.

The Future According to Me

Putting aside the fact that I don't know much about the laws of physics, or the intricate details that go into creating an electronic device, or call myself a biology expert, I feel like sharing some things that I think should be a part of our future (I am an expert on dreaming of cool things - self-proclaimed that is). And when I think these should be a part of our future, I also think it should be in my lifetime so I can enjoy and experience them.

Flying cars - We've all seen them in the movies, and have all thought by now that they'd be a common thing. And yet they're not. And I'm disappointed. I feel I've been gypped by Hollywood, and someone should fix this by coming up with an economical and pollution-free way of making flying cars an actuality. How cool would it be to have a flying car? I have always wondered though how air roads would work. I picture something similar to Back to the Future II where everything is lit guiding the way, which would make it nice at night, but in the daytime would it be just as clear? Regardless, I think someone should make this a reality now.

Hover boards - And while we're thinking about Back to the Future II, we should discuss how cool it would be to have a hover board. I've thought this one through (with the help of The Uglies book series) on how if you had a metal grid of some sort underneath the pavement and side walks, you could easily make hover boards real. Just don't go over water like Marty did. This is all theoretical of course, and again I nowhere claim to be an expert, but this seems doable to me. It could be another, yet simple form of transportation, and the trade off of zero gases expelled from the board with the cost of an underground metal grid would balance out over time. Yep it all makes sense.

Internal Data Connection (IDC for short) - I don't know if this is a must have thing, but something I could see happening in the future. Whether it's tethered to the brain directly, or through a lens you wear in your eye, I see us being connected to the internet and everything else this way. I see the cell phone morphing into this same technology, whether it's a video chat or just audio. Our brains will be able to think what we want to look up, and it will then be seen through our eyes, or projected onto a screen wall or smaller object. The only thing I can see causing an issue would be driving, walking or doing anything mobile. And this is where flying cars would come in handy and we would just add auto-drive to them. I don't know how to fix walking though.... (I do have to admit, I may have borrowed a lot of this from The Uglies book series).

I don't have a picture of this, although I could draw a brain
and an eye projecting an internet image if you really need the visual.

Fat Burner Supplement that works and is good for you - This needs to be made now. I'm not saying this so that we can all be lazier, because I still think that exercise is crucial, but I'm saying this so I don't have to feel bad about eating junk food. I have a sweet tooth, and it's never going to subside, so I need something to make my body burn it away so I can enjoy my favorite foods. It's a simple request really.

No picture for this one either. Sorry.

Virtual Outdoor Games - I'm going to admit that I stole this from the show Eureka. When I saw this, I thought it was pretty cool. It does have it's disadvantages though. As they show this device operating in the show, you have to wear eye wear that shows the image. I think this could be wired into your IDC, so that would solve that problem. Any who how the device works is you're still out on a field playing Baseball for example, but the ball and bat are virtual. I don't think this is a necessity, but I do think it would be fun. And I think this could be adaptable for any sport. Virtual billiards, golf, football, basketball....

I searched and searched and this was the best pic I could find.

Cure for the Common Cold & Cancer - Knowing that there are several different strains of the common cold, I know this is a difficult task, but I have faith in our scientists to one day be able to rid us of the snifflies and coughs. I also have faith that one day we will rid the world of cancer in all its forms. Then we can all live longer! Which brings me to my next item.

Cryostasis - I think this is both a genius idea and a crazy one. I would love to be cryogenically frozen and wake up 100's of years in the future (just without the insane Vanilla Sky scenario). I want to be able to see what the world would be like in the future beyond my own lifetime. How cool would it be if say George Washington had been placed in Cryostasis and woke up this year? I think he would be both amazed and frightened. I think that's an exhilirating thought! I also find this option more likely than time travel, because let's face it, time travel as much as we all wish were possible, just isn't. I waste more wishes than I should that The Doctor will show up in my living room inviting me to join in his travels inside the TARDIS...but I keep doing so, because you never know.

Space Travel - Aside from the fact that Obama and his minions curbed space exploration, I believe it will be rebooted and we will go further than we ever have. And in doing this we will find life on other planets, and start mingling with them (you take it however you choose). We will also have ships that you can live and work on. Much like Star Trek. It will be awesome, and a good time for all. I would love to be able to travel to distant planets and meet other people whether they're green, blue or look like me. I would also join the fleet and work upon a starship (how else are you going to meet the aliens?). I also see space travel being more likely to end up as through Joss Whedon's vision of the future in Firefly, where we would colonize other earth-like planets. I could handle the wild west if I could still have my cell phone and a laser gun.

Robots/Androids/AI - How fun would it be to have a robot for a friend? Whether they call themselves a robot, android or AI, I wouldn't care. I always imagined my robot friend to be a cross between Data, Jude Law in ai, and Robin Williams in Bicentennial Man. Therefore he would look like Jude Law, with the passion of Robin Williams and the logic of Data. Don't ask me why. I think in time we really will have more robotics, and I do see them being humanoid. I just hope that they don't go all iRobot or Terminator on us. Which will most likely happen. And I hope by the time they turn on us, I have gone into cryostasis and wake up to find we won the war. Not likely though.

This pretty much sums it up for now, but if you want to add some of your ideas for the future, I would love to hear them.

Noun Time #1 - Oh The Places I'll Go....Or Want To....Edition 2

So I keep changing my mind on how I want to do this. I've decided that Monday's, Wednesday's and Friday's are going to be the Noun Time Days. Monday's will be the Noun - Place, Wednesday's - Thing, and Friday's - Person. I feel that in doing this, I can write and share more and maybe people can enjoy more.

For today's edition of Oh The Places I'll Go...Or Want To.... we find ourselves on the lovely islands of the state of Hawaii.

Do I really need to say more after seeing these pictures?

I have always been intrigued by island living, and being secluded on a small piece of land. I have also always wanted to go somewhere that the temperatures are pretty much ideal. And by ideal I mean no snow. I almost had an opportunity to actually visit Oahu a couple years ago, but sadly it fell through. The longing to go hasn't waned though, and this is why it's my #2 destination spot.

I'm not a beach person at all. I had a traumatic experience when I was a child - which I won't bore you with -that left me disliking sand very very much. But putting that aside, I could absolutely see myself sitting on a beach sipping a mai tai getting my tan on. I know, I'm a weird duck, but this is what makes me loveable (I tell myself this to make me feel better). I can also see me scootering around any of the islands, zip-lining high through the trees, and enjoying a helicopter ride whilst island jumping. And if I see myself on a beach enjoying it, then I guess I also see myself hiking the gorgeous mountains, something I also dislike very very much. That's what vacations are for, to do things you otherwise normally wouldn't do.

Being that I don't need a passport or thousands of dollars (for airfare alone) to travel to Hawaii, I can see that this place is still a possibility, and then I smile.

Noun Time #2 - Things I Find Funny Edition 1

It's Noun Time again! This week's edition falls under the Noun - Thing. And this week's thing is a video that made me laugh. If you don't watch New Girl, then you probably won't get it. If you do, I hope you find it funny like I did. Enjoy!

TV Review: House, M.D.

*Spoilers if you haven't seen this week's episode!*

Those that know me well know that I'm a fan of House. I'm not an original fan though. I kinda fell upon the show end of second season. I was watching American Idol and the finale of House was airing right after. During the show they kept airing previews for House, and the episode happened to be the one where House gets shot. The previews intrigued me so much, as I had heard about this show and how great it was, but I felt that because I hadn't started from the beginning that I'd be lost. I was wrong. It was pretty easy to follow. And I was immediately hooked. During that summer I had made it my mission to catch up before the new season started. And in fact when the new season started in the fall, I happened to be on my way to California. We were stopped in Vegas overnight, and I actually decided to stay in the hotel room and watch the season premiere instead of getting drunk and gambling my money away. I still think I made the right decision.
Original Cast

Well needless to say I've loved the show since. It was just announced this past week that the show will be ending at the end of this season, and I have to say I'm not really surprised. I hate to admit it, but the show has gone down hill slowly. I don't know how many more catastrophes can happen to House. I mean getting shot, being investigated for prescription forgery, going insane and spending months in an asylum, going to jail for driving his car into his exes house, and then the smaller dramas in between would be more than a normal person can handle. So to say that it got somewhat out of control and unbelievable is being nice.

This being said, tonight's episode reminded me of the first couple seasons of House. And I have to say I absolutely loved this episode! It had the heart, the laughter, and the overall House feeling the show has lost over the seasons. This is just what the show needed about three seasons ago.

I love when they focus on a particular character of the show, basically breaking from the typical formula. A lot of the time when they break the formula the focus is on House himself. And I typically enjoy these episodes, because they take him out of his element, and the writing is usually above average bordering on excellent. This week's episode was focused on Chase following having been stabbed the previous week (yes I know another traumatic experience, but this time it wasn't House). This episode focused on his mental status following his near death experience. This brought him to come face to face with his faith he abandoned years ago, and come to terms with his playboy persona. The episode shows him at his lowest and actually realizing he's hit bottom. And without giving too much away, the episode ends with him admitting he has issues and needs to deal with them. And in doing so we got to see House actually admit himself that he's self-destructive and that he does care about someone other than himself. Something he has never really done. Well not directly and out in the open. Watching Chase deal with this trauma and come to terms with it, actually brought tears to my eyes. Another thing that really hasn't happened in a while with the show.

I just hope that with the show wrapping up this season, that we will have the pleasure to experience more of these episodes, and start to see more heart again. Because that's what's helped make the show in the beginning and should help end the show. Don't get me wrong I enjoy House being an ass as much as the next person, but it does wear on you when it's time after time. So to see the softer side on occasion helps balance the show out.

Here's to hoping that this last half of the season will be spectacular and the show can go out with a bang and not disappoint. I'm trying not to have too many expectations, but alas I do because as much as I ragged on it above, I really do love the show.

Noun Time #1 - Oh The Places I'll Go....Or Want To....Edition 1

So I've decided that Friday's will now be Noun Time Day. What does this mean you ask? It means I'm going to do a dedicated post once a week based loosely on a person, place or thing (noun get it?). I think this will be fun and help change things up a bit. So how this will work is Noun Time #1 will be Places, Noun Time #2 will be Things and Noun Time #3 will be People. And I will then have editions within those focusing on those particular nouns. Make sense? No? Eh. Just read on.

For this week's edition I would like to talk about one of the places I want to go to if I were rich and had all the time in the world. A girl can dream, it's allowed. I promise.  I'll do one place at a time so that I can stretch this out and keep you wondering. As if!

England baby!!

The Cottages are adorable!!

Westminster Abbey yo!

London Tower (love the arrow slits!)

There are several reasons why I want to visit England. And the #1 reason is The Beatles, but a close 2nd would be because of Friends. Ever since watching Joey step into his map, I've wanted to visit. I know that sounds weird, but it's true. I've found over the years many more reasons to visit England ranging from TV shows (Doctor Who) to the architecture (see picture above). The country has so much history and I want to soak it all in like a big fat sponge. The buildings are gorgeous, the homes are so cute, and the landscape is so green (coming from Utah you'll understand why this excites me)!

On more than one occasion I've day dreamt that I would live in England and adopt a posh British accent and come back and amaze my friends and family at how proper and sexy (yes I said it) I would sound. And one day this may very well happen. Well at least the living there part, I believe the accent part is a bit more difficult, but I could force it.

I want to go walk on the cross walk from the Abbey Road album, and go to Liverpool and visit the restored Cavern (where The Beatles played before they were famous). I want to go drink tea with the Queen (see in my head the Queen and I would be friends). I want to see a Rugby match, and drink beer at a pub. And most of all I want to try and make a British Guard smile in front of Buckingham Palace. I don't think any of this is out of question....well maybe making the guard smile, but everything else could easily be done!

My Memory Sucks

So I think it's time to admit that I have a crappy memory. But only sometimes. Let me explain:

When it comes to someone telling me something about themselves I usually remember it very well. So well in fact that when someone has told me something and then tells me something different I remember and call them on it, but when I tell myself that I need to do laundry, or empty the garbage or hell grab something from another room, I suddenly have alzheimer's. I don't get it. I've come to the conclusion that I may have short term memory loss, but I have no clue what would have caused it. Eating too much sugar? Drinking too much tea? Not enough sleep? Who knows. What I do know is that I'm so frustrated with myself. I will have a list in my head of things I need to to do and remember, and no lie, 10 seconds later I could not tell you if my life depended on it, what was on that list.

I find myself getting easily distracted when I'm at work. I honestly have to make a list of things that people tell me to do so that I won't forget. I will be thinking of a website I need to visit, and if I don't do it right then, I might as well never do it, because I seriously won't remember 10 seconds later. This is a serious problem!

So how do I go about fixing this? Eat less sugar? Drink less tea? I heard there are supplements that you can take that are supposed to enhance your memory, but does anyone really know if they work? I'm so worried! I'm barely in my 30's and I'm going to be completely useless by the time I hit 40 if I don't figure this out quickly. I can only imagine how I'll be when I'm 80. Oh the horror!

For now until I figure out how to improve my memory, I'll be sticking to post-it notes and calendar reminders for the simplest of things. Like re-ordering contacts and pills even though I clearly know I'm out and need to, or bring a book to a friend, or pay a freaking bill. Maybe I'm not alone in this, but I sure do know it's a problem.

Cupid is Stupid

So I realize that a lot of my posts lately have been about Doctor Who, and I'm sorry for those that don't know or like the show, but it's going to happen from time to time. But this time I thought I'd change the subject and talk about that dreaded so-called holiday Valentine's Day coming up.

I hate this "holiday". I think it's just another one of those over-commercialized holiday's that is hell bent on getting a lot of people in trouble, and forcing more to show their love. I don't think there should be a holiday where you have to prove your love by buying expensive gifts, going on expensive dates, and doing outlandish proposals. If you feel you need to prove your love, then you're doing it wrong. This should be a daily exercise that comes as easy as walking. Why do you need a holiday for it?

It just goes to show how screwed up our society can be. I know people are going to say that I'm just a bitter single girl, but that is so not the case. I have never liked this holiday, because it's pointless. So in saying this, if you disagree with me then bring on the crazy large flower arrangements, cheesy valentine cards, and seriously cliche marriage proposals (seriously unoriginal).

But to help those that feel like me about this holiday, I have come up with a few anti-valentine things that you can do on this day. These are what I would consider a lot more fun than going to extremes to show your love to your significant other:

1 - Watch a movie that has nothing to do with romance. These are a few good ones:
                 a. Saving Private Ryan
                 b. Stand By Me
                 c. 12 Angry Men
                 d. Shawshank Redemption

2 - Eat some Ice Cream and Popcorn

3- Have some Vodka Lemonades

4 - Invite a friend or two to come watch the movies, eat the food and drink the drinks with you.

5 - Hell make it a party!

You're welcome.
